JHE Week at a Glance May 14-18,2018

An Ode To Teacher Moms
It’s time to get up! I’ve got to wash my hair!  I wonder what the kids will wear today?  I’m so tired.  I stayed up too late working.  Honey, can you help me out?  No, I haven’t made the coffee yet!  Can you make the kids their lunches?  I’m so tired.  Don’t tell me I have to get gas too!

I watched my wife get ready for school every morning for about 10 years.  Well…sometimes.  Most of the time though, she got up before I did.  Looking back, I had it pretty easy.  She got the kids ready, made their lunches, made sure they had their homework completed….and so on. Then, after a full day of standing, bending, kneeling, and teaching, she stayed after school to work on lesson plans and other things that are required of a teacher to be ready for the next day.  All while the kids hung out waiting for mom to finish.  Then she would come home, make dinner, help the kids with their homework, clean the house ---you know the story.  I had no idea.

Then one day…I became a teacher.  The first thing I did was call my wife and apologize to her for all the times I didn’t help out when I could have-when I should have.  She has forgiven me, but I’ll net forget the sacrifice she made for our family.

Being a teacher is hard.  Being a teacher mom is even harder! Every day, I watch teacher moms come to work with their kids in tow.  Many of us have no idea how their morning has gone, what battles they had to fight or ignore.  And still they come, ready to teach and love other people’s kids.  I see examples of this in the office I share with a principal mom.  I see this in the classrooms I walk through.  I see this in the hallways and on the softball field.  I see this everywhere and every day at John Haley.

Thank you all for the sacrifice you make on a daily basis- the time away from your families, energy, money, and emotion you pour out to make others better.  You truly are amazing!  I hope your Mother’s Day was filled with blessings as you truly are a blessing to all of us!

Love, Mark
