Week at a Glance September 25-29, 2017

Bulldog Squad!

Going in to our last week of the first 6 weeks and I can't believe it! I have had a blast seeing everyone doing what is best for kids! Such a positive start to the school year. Remember, our door is always open-we want to make what you do EASIER!

1. Shout out to Jose Pargas for walking students home after school- his students have been so excited! They even follow him like Rocky!
2. Have you seen the cool MATH wall in the hall across from the lounge? Shout out to Homero Guerrero for creating an interactive math space for our kiddos!
3. Big shout out to Ms. Valencia Ashley for stepping out on a new staff and becoming a big part of our team! She is on our CIC now in addition to taking on a team for DI!
4. Thank you to Gina Meriwether for making sure the kids in the PASS unit each had a spirit shirt this year. That is going above and beyond for kids!
5. Shout out to  Isela Hernandez for being SUPER encouraging to her students during a walk-through this week. While a student was trying to answer in her class, she encouraged him to answer when he was about to give up and told him she believed in him. That is building relationships at its finest!

  • Walk-through focus this week will continue to be TEKS alignment, randomizing, and having students answer in complete sentences. We will change next week. :)
  • Email me back the definition of widdershins and you can wear jeans on Tuesday!
  • Tweet something awesome you do in class this week! (Prizes involved periodically!) Use @JHaleybullogs  #kidsdeserveit #myIrvingisd
  • Don't forget  to complete your compliance courses. Due October 27!
  • Remember- no matter what you do-be the BEST at it!

Week at a Glance September 18-22, 2017

Bulldog Squad!

Week 4 was a challenging one, amIright? However, it was SO good to see everyone in good spirits through the tough stuff. I loved the positive attitudes at our faculty meeting. I actually left there feeling BETTER than when I entered. (Who says that after a meeting??) You all are my inspiration. You deal with so much and you sacrifice more than people know. No one understand that better than the people who sit in our meeting once a month. It was so cool to see everyone stay after the meeting just to hang out for a few minutes. I am SO proud to be your principal!

1. Shout out to Jose Pargas, Susan Rice, Tamique Akins, Suzanne Kline, and Mark Gorena for representing for us at Hearts and Hammers this weekend!
2. Thank you Carrie Patrick for a fun DOT DAY and for our special DOT treats! We are making our MARK at J Haley!
3. Thank you ALL for the dedication to stay late and attend SWAG!
4. MAP testing is done-thank you for ensuring a proper testing environment and for being prepared!
4. A GIANT shout out to our SCHOOL FAMILY!  WE raised OVER $1500 to donate to a former Bulldog and her teachers!!!! YAY! We are going to split it into Visa gift cards and send them to her. She will send us a picture back of them receiving them! Thank you FaLessha Esslinger for helping me coordinate this drive!

Week at a Glance September 4-8, 2017

Bulldog Squad!

The second week of school can hit hard, amIright? Thank you all for staying SO positive and upbeat this week. What a fun ending with the pep rally. My favorite part was Angelica Cortez kicking the Mavs Mascot when he fell. LOL!

Some "happenings" this past week:
  1. We kicked off the IDEA program with our 5th graders. So cool! They will become real entrepreneurs and put their products on an online market place. Also, our partners in education, MJB Wood are going to help mentor the students throughout the 18 week process.
  2. Speaking of MJB Wood-We have a GREAT opportunity to give back to them. If you do not know much about what MJB Wood does for us-they provide a meal to teachers each year, last year they gave us SO MANY giftcards for teachers, they pay for Perot night, school supplies, uniforms, and they just had a trophy case built for us. They are truly AMAZING! They have asked us to get a few crews to help them participate in Hearts and Hammers on September 16th and 23rd. We will be fixing up a house for a family in Dallas! If you are able to carve some of your time out of either day, that would be great. You can come at any time. We will be there from 8-5 both Saturdays. Please consider coming-even if for a short amount of time. We are also planning something for all of our volunteers that can attend. Here is a sign up:Hearts and Hammers
  3. Rosa had an awesome parent orientation with the most parents I have ever seen in the Parent Center!
  4. Curriculum Night-thank you for all of the hard work. We are reflect and revisiting the idea of this night... possibly combining it with Meet the Teacher next year...
As we go "instruction strong" into the third week we will be upping walk-throughs. Remember, we are all co-learners and growers!  (Here is a Secret...our focus this week will be TEKS alignment and use of ELL strategies!)

During this week, think about the student in your class that you can already see is someone who will be hard to build the relationship with. What can you differently from what you have always done to make connections?

Have a great 4 day week!

~Sanders
